Here is another blast from the past. I was requested to shoot some images of Yvette Nelson and Yvette wanted me to come to her pick of location which was a nice little house in the Studio City, California.
I was just starting to get into digital at the time and I had got myself a Canon G2 which was a step up from the G1. I like Canon over Nikon as the recording of the images to the cards seemed to be a bit quicker which is a big deal when you’re shooting a fashion model who is moving about in front of you.
The G2 camera is a point & shoot which was very compact and easy to use, I could just set it and forget it. The camera’s mega pixels was not very much (4.0) but it was in the days of getting into digital any way you could to be ahead of the curve. I think you can see there is not a lot of detail in the images but I got the shot’s I needed.
On this set of images I thought I would try something a bit different and switch out the color balance for tungsten and being in day light I would end up with the images having a bit of a blue cast but to keep the skin tone I use a tungsten light (1000K) on Yvette set up to the left of my camera. You can also see that some of my images I set my shutter speed to be slow to get some movement to make for an more interesting look. I have switched some of the images to black and white which seemed to give that old Rock & Roll look of the 60s-70s.
You might have also seen that Yvette was wearing a wig which was hard to get away with it not looking like a wig but we just went with that funky look we were going for at the time. If you can’t hide something just make it stand out even more.
So my point is sometimes you just need to have some fun and push the boat out and see what you get. Enjoy photography.
